Functions & Events is proud to host Party After Dark at our upbeat venue, Bungalow 8. On the absolute waterfront location, King Street Wharf, Bungalow 8 presents as a seafood bistro during the day and morphs into a leading bar venue by night, combining inside and outdoor dining and relaxing.

Cutting Edge Australian Architect, Dale Jones-Evans, has created a unique and decorative space inside the venue. Set off by hanging lamps of paper and reed, a ceiling of split, black-lacquered bamboo is illuminated by a backlit bar and yellow-toned light. Extending out across the wharf, where rippling water echoes the undulations of the bamboo. The outdoor section provides shade from the daytime sun and views of the night sky and harbour by night.

Bungalow 8 caters to smaller bookings as well as events up to 1200 people offering areas for corporate and social events including private functions, cocktail style events, luncheon birthday parties, conferences, meetings, farewells and banquet dinners.

Bungalow 8 is one of 13 venues within the Functions & Events portfolio. Growing from just the two owners, Innovative now employs 6 fulltime staff along with a large pool of casuals and contractors. Not content to be a penniless muso, Meri Took became a roadie. He toured the world for many years with the cream of rock royalty including Neil Young, Elton John, INXS, The Police, Elvis Costello and Cold Chisel in Lighting and Production Management roles. This extensive international experience allowed Meri to fine-tune his production skills, technical know-how and his dedication to delivering exceptional events.

Understanding the intricacies of the ‘back-stage’ world, Meri Took started Sydney Crewing Service - Sydney’s first professional event-crewing service - in 1978.

When corporate events emerged in the business arena, Meri Took was right at the front of the wave. He was charged with being the Technical Director and Designer for the launch of the Apple Macintosh in Hawaii in 1983. The experience of witnessing a 10 minute standing ovation for Steve Jobs, before he spoke at the lectern, still reminds Meri of the power of special events.

Meri has worked on thousands of corporate events. He is known for his vast experience, his staging of successful shows, exceptional project management skills and an unparalleled attention to detail. His Australian production company, Production Techniques, was a ground breaking industry leader in the mid to late eighties.

In 1990 Meri identified a gap in the Australian market for rental theatrical drapes and stage risers.  Starting with a dozen drapes, some second hand risers, and a strong commitment to service excellence, Staging Rentals & Construction Services was born.

Staging Rentals & Construction Services has grown to become a national multi-awarding winning company. After 20 years in business, Staging Rentals remains at the top of its game by constantly providing renewed and innovative staging products, flexible service, and ingenious event construction solutions.
